Me-time isn't a luxury, it's a necessity! Modern day life has left us tired both mentally and physically. It's time we started prioritising our own well-being and give ourselves some much needed TLC.
So for spring 2018 we've created 'Fall in love with YOU' as part of our #empoweredmoments campaign with the aim to encourage everyone to have a little more me-time!
Research has identified 4 key areas of complete well-being; relaxing, moving, sleeping, and nourishment. ESC Founder and Creative Director Sally talks to us about how she maintains a healthy balance in these 4 all aspects of her life...
This has always been a tough one for me! I’m notoriously bad at sitting still at home - if I’m watching TV(which is a rarity in itself, what’s Game of Thrones?!) then I’m reading a magazine and replying to an email at the same time. I’m a confessed multitasker. In the last year I’ve taken charge of my relaxation by downloading the app Calm. I LOVE the ‘Daily Calm’, it’s 10mins of meditation with some very thought provoking messages and I feel compelled to sit and do nothing else.
I’ve always been a harder, faster girl when it comes to fitness but the stress this puts on your body when your cortisol is already through the roof (running your own business is hugely stressful!) is very damaging. I’ve slowed down my fitness to more controlled movements focusing on form and functionality with the odd bit of HIIT/cardio training thrown in twice a week.
I make it no secret that I’ve had some of the toughest times in my life(both work and personal) over the last 18months and getting a good night’s sleep was a struggle for me. Magnesium oil body spray has been my saviour! Keeping healthy magnesium levels has a wealth of benefits on the body with better sleep and stress reduction being two of them, but the tablet form just didn’t do it for me. I always had vivid dreams and nightmares, waking up feeling exhausted. Magnesium is much better absorbed through the skin and my body seems to agree, hello ZZZ’s!
I’ve always been known as the 'healthy one’(or is that fussy eater?!) in the family(that’s not to say I don’t love a good glass of red or a Crosstown doughnut every now and then!) so good nutrition is a major part of my life. I’m not into fad diets, carb cutting or eating low fat but I try to choose organic or locally sourced produce wherever possible and eat minimal meat. I'm a firm believer in the famous Hippocrates saying ‘let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” - what we put in our bodies affects the way we feel, the way we move and the way we look, why would you not fuel your engine with good, natural food?(which for me features a lot of hummus!).
